Selma stands as an unique icon of our nation's history-one that must be enthusiastically conserved for future generations to experience. Revitalizing this city requires collaboration and leadership. That is why ArtsRevive is committed to supporting the people of Selma and working together to foster meaningful community growth. We have provided an anchor for a vibrant Arts and Culture District that represents and supports this community.
In 2016, ArtsRevive set out to raise $1,000,000 in a capital campaign to change the landscape of downtown. The last two years have been exciting and busy! We have raised over $900,000, opened a successful art gallery and completed renovations on the Carneal Building.
Our next project is an oasis of green space downtown. This garden further develops our walkable and inviting Arts and Culture District by creating a serene place to sit, stroll and interact with a growing collection of public art. The new Pocket Park will include a chalk wall where children can draw and create. Game boards etched in the concrete tables will encourage players of all ages to meet. The brick wall on the northern edge will house a collection of architectural artifacts from Dallas County homes and industry. The back wall will be covered in an eye-catching mural, designed by a local artist.
We are so excited to see this project get started! This urban oasis will become a place where friends, neighbors and visitors can gather and be a part of our vibrant Arts and Culture District.
